Disability is something most
people do not like to think about. The chances that you will become
disabled are probably greater than you realize. Social Security
disability compensation claim is a benefit received from the Social
Security Administration by disabled workers and in some instances their
dependents, similar to those received by retired workers. To be
considered disabled and qualify for Social Security disability
compensation claim, a person must have impairment, psychological,
mental or psychic in nature.
There are at least five major types of Social
Security disability benefit that a person can claim and the Disability
Insurance Benefit is the most important type. Individuals who can make
a claim for Social Security disability compensation claim under the
Disability Insurance benefit are those who have worked in recent years
who are now disabled. The Social Security disability compensation claim
for disabled widow’s and widowers are paid to individuals who are at
least fifty years old and becomes disabled within a certain period of
time after the death of their wife or husband.
The Disabled Adult Child Benefits go to the children
of persons who are deceased or who are drawing Social Security
disability or retirement benefits. To be eligible for Social Security
disability compensation claim the child must have become disabled
before age 22. For Disability Insurance Benefits, Disabled Widow's or
Widower's Benefits and Disabled Adult Child benefits, it does not
matter whether the disabled individual is rich or poor. On the other
hand, Supplemental Security Income benefits are paid to individuals who
are poor and who are disabled. It does not matter for SSI whether an
individual has worked in the past or not.
To qualify for Social Security disability
compensation claim you must have worked long enough and recently enough
under Social Security. You can earn up to a maximum of four work
credits per year. The number of work credits you need for Social
Security disability compensation claim depends on your age when you
became disabled.
To receive Social Security disability compensation
claim under the Social Security Disability program, you must have a
physical or mental health problem severe enough to keep you from
working in any regular paying job for at least one year or result in
death.
If you believe you are disabled and unable to work
and also believe you may qualify for disability benefits, you should
minimize the waiting time and file a Social Security disability
compensation claim application as soon as you are eligible. Most
claimants will be eligible to file a disability application the day
they stop working or the day after their earnings drop below $830.00
per month. It is at this point that you should contact the local social
security office and request a disability application.
